How to Make Your Car Safer, Healthier, and Greener

<p>Driving a car gives us a sense of freedom, provides transportation, and allows us to show off our sense of style. But cars are notorious for their pollution. How can you make your driving better for the environment?</p><p>The first step is to get a tune-up. This can increase your car's mileage by more than 10%.</p><p>The second step is to check the amount of air in your tires. Again this will improve mileage and decrease wear on your tires. If you can use your present tires longer because you kept them properly inflated you are lessening your disposing of worn out tires.</p><p>The third step is to clean out your car. You don't have to carry everything but the kitchen sink in your car. The more weight it carries the lower the mileage.</p><p>The fourth step is to lose weight (and not just you, your entire family could probably stand to lose a little weight too). Again this will improve mileage.</p><p>The fifth step is to clean the outside of your car of any ice and snow. Both are heavy and cut down on the aerodynamics.</p><p>The sixth step is to car pool and plan your routes. Try not to double back.</p><p>The seventh step is to drive smoothly. Avoid sudden accelerations and stomping on the brakes. Along the same lines, do not every tail gate.</p><p>The eight step is to not use your car at all when you can. Perhaps you can walk a few more blocks and save a little gas. Or bicycle to work every now and again. Some cities will provide transportation for your bike if you wish to ride it to work but just can't seem to even think of pedaling home.</p><p>The ninth step is to remove the bicycle and ski racks from your car when not in use. They both cut aerodynamics and add weight.</p><p>In conclusion, it does not have to cost much money to improve your car's mileage. Mostly it just takes thought.
