Decades of Celebrity Hair Style Trends | ArticlesBase.com

When it comes to hair, it’s not only how healthy and shiny your hair is that counts, but a big part of your signature “crowning feature” is how you style it. Hair styles that celebrities have donned over the past century have shaped hair cut trends amongst the general public and will for years to come.

If you thought the power of celebrity was strong forty to fifty years ago, that’s nothing compared to the trend shaping that occurs today from the Hollywood elite. Just look at what haircuts like the “Rachel” inspired by Jennifer Aniston’s “Friends” character, spawned in terms of salon requests and lookalikes or spinoff haistyles.

I even donned a style that was similar to the Rachel, only longer, as did an army of women. It was great, versatile and almost universally flattering cut that a lot of women took advantage of in one way or another. With the exception of a few of the latest tress-trends, most of them are very versatile, and that is part of the appeal. You have the longer, layered cuts, and then you have short do’s that appeal to a generally smaller pool, but all in all most of them are versatile. Same goes for men’s styles.

One of the more recent fads is bangs. Thanks to one adorable actress who sported shorter, but very stylish bangs, Reese Witherspoon, many hairstylists around the US began to experience higher demand for bangs, specifically bangs to copy the look of Ms. Witherspoon. Reese, another actress with a reputation for being America’s sweetheart, had unknowingly started another craze in the world of hair!

When I was in high school, which was almost twenty years ago (I can’t believe I just spoke that aloud!), every girl was trying to copy the look of the supermodels, like Cindy Crawford, who was the biggest supermodel back then. The look was definitely long and wild, and the bigger you could get your hair, the better. The really big bangs and perms of the eighties were out, but big, natural, sexy, just got out of bed hair was totally in.

This trend was great for women who had naturally full hair, but it had women who were on the fine and limp side grabbing up volumizing hair products off the shelves to emulate this hot look. All you had to do was look at any Guess Jeans ad, which was the biggest brand right about then, and you invariably see a model with bedhead, wild hair, and dark, sultry eye makeup. This big hair look has made a comeback recently, after a long bout with an obsession over stick straight, smooth hair.

Rewind to the nineties, and you’ll find another few years that were influenced by another sweetheart of America, Meg Ryan. Her cute, curly and full bob was followed up by her signature choppy, short hair do, and women flocked to the stylist to get both. Not only was she the queen of the romantic comedy, but she was also one of the major trendsetters of the nineties.

More recently, we’ve seen a lot of copycats of the Victoria Beckham style, which she sported for a while, her signature hairstyle which was a very simple, straight cut that was chin length, but cut higher in the back. This was one of the more universally flattering cuts that wasn’t actually long, but not quite short either.

Not as many women followed her into her pixie cut phase, but that’s probably because not so many women can pull off such a cut since it can come off as severe and not very feminine. I have to admit, this was not my favorite on Posh, but she has since started to grow it out a bit from pictures I’ve seen, and it’s much more soft looking on her.

And what of the men? Well, male haircuts don’t seem to change or evolve in trends as often as female haircuts do. These days, as I write this in August of 2009, the “in” thing is to have messy, longer hair for men. Think Patrick Dempsey or Benicio Del Toro.

Out are the buzz cuts and close cropped haircuts of yesteryear, and in are the low maintenance, but product consuming hair styles that make women want to run their fingers through men’s hair. Longer hair on men has garnered a certain sense of sex appeal, and men are no dummies in picking up on that, lots of them are taking the cue and growing their hair out for a more natural, individual look rather than a cookie cutter buzzed hair cut. Scissors only for men these days, no clippers!
About the Author:

Danna Schneider is the owner and primary contributor of several natural health and beauty websites, and frequently reports on her personal experiences with products in this realm. Information on female and male hair loss products and natural ways to grow your hair faster, longer and more silky can be found at Vitamins for Hair Growth and additional comparisons and reviews of other natural hair loss products here at Provillus, Profollica Product Reviews.

Play Guitar Like a Good Scout and "Be Prepared"

I was the victim of a freak accident on a gig recently and it really drove home the point of how important it is, as a guitar player, to be prepared for anything.

Whether it's playing guitar on a gig, rehearsing with a band, or just jamming in the basement with some buddies - there is always the possibility that Murphy will rear his ugly head and turn an otherwise pleasant musical experience into a nightmare.

The freak accident happened as I was setting up for a recent outdoor gig. I had pulled out one of my guitars and was getting ready to put the strap on it, when I realized that the strap button on the guitar was loose and needed to be tightened.

With the guitar in my right hand, and the strap in my left, I reached out to toss the strap over the top of my amp so I could free up my hand to work on the guitar.

Here's where the "freak" part comes in. When I tossed the strap on to my amp, the strap lock button of the strap swung down and into the open back of the amp. As soon as that happened I heard a "poof" sound, followed by the tinkling of glass shards.

Instantly knowing what happened, but still in a state of denial, I went around to the back of the amp to take a look, and my worst fear was confirmed.

The metal strap lock button of the strap had swung around and made contact with one of my power tubes. The 6L6 took a direct hit, and there was nothing left but the tube socket, and shattered, jagged glass.

I could never have repeated that accuracy again in a million years!

My first thought was, "uh-oh, I don't have a spare tube".

To make a long story short, fortunately the other guitar player had an extra tube and the rest of the gig went off without a hitch.

The fact that I was so unprepared was inexcusable. As a gigging musician with over 30 years under my belt, I knew better.

To make matters worse, I have written a number of columns, and instructed numerous students in the benefits of being prepared for any eventuality. Guess I should practice what I preach!

The moral, of course, is to sit down ahead of time and think about all the things that could go wrong on a gig, rehearsal or recording session - and make a list of things you should have on hand if something should break.

Take a chapter from the Boy Scout manual and "Be Prepared"

Think especially about having spare guitar strings, batteries, cables, picks, duct tape, screw drivers, fuses...oh, and...tubes!

Over 40, 50, 60? Books on the Law of Attraction - How Are They Helpful?

Many people start learning about the Law of Attraction through word-of-mouth or by watching a movie like The Secret. Some people get inspired and want to learn more, which is great! For these people, having a book or numerous books on the Law of Attraction to refer to over time can be incredibly helpful.

When you watch a movie or have a conversation, the information you absorbed is gone once the movie or the conversation ends. Sure, you'll remember some of what you've taken in. If you're one of the lucky few with an amazing memory, maybe you'll remember it all. But, most of us will forget a great deal after a few days. Having books to refer to can be very useful.

If you're wanting to start practicing the Law of Attraction, you'll definitely want some resources. It's not easy to shift you're thinking. I know I wanted support and back up for when my habitual, negative thinking kicked in, and it did! I'd been thinking negatively for my whole life, and I figured it was realistic to expect re-focusing my thoughts to be at least a little difficult. In retrospect, I am so happy I allowed myself to indulge in extra support.

With a book on the Law of Attraction, you can highlight portions you find most inspirational, make notes in the margins about techniques you'd like to try, and refer back to whatever you need to read again when you find yourself getting stuck.

In contrast to a movie, a book can go anywhere with you and you can interact with it in natural settings. For me, taking my self-help practices into nature is hugely beneficial. There's something about sunlight, breezes and plants that makes me feel more calm and hopeful. Something much bigger than me is making this universe tick, and maybe that same force will be there for me as I strive to improve my life.

I highly recommend getting a book on the Law of Attraction to assist you in your practice.

To read more about the Law of Attraction and its benefits, visit http://selfhelpland.com/the-law-of-attraction

If you're ready to purchase one of the most amazing guides I've ever used, go to http://manifestationguide.info

Good luck in all your self-help practices!

How to Overcome Grief

Grief is a part of the healing process when you have experienced any kind of loss. Getting past that grief, whether it is over the loss of a loved one, a relationship or a job, and moving on with your life may leave you feeling like a stranger in a strange land. The familiar may seem unfamiliar and the routine may become a challenge when you are filtering everything through the haze of sorrow and confusion brought on by grief.

You need to keep in mind that even during your moments of greatest sorrow, you are not alone. Remember that you are eternally in the presence of God's divine love, which fills any void temporarily left by grief.

"This is my comfort in my distress, that your promises give me life."
Psalm 119:50

There are experts who break down the stages of grief into six categories. These can be very helpful when defining the various phases you go through as you adjust to traumatic events in your life:

Stage One: Denial & Isolation
Stage Two: Anger
Stage Three: Bargaining
Stage Four: Depression
Stage Five: Acceptance
Stage Six: Resurrection

While these six stages are an excellent way to gauge whether you are moving forward, there is another way to look at grief and how you handle it – a three-part process of meeting it, managing it and mastering it. These three phases allow you to process your grief in your life in clear, straight-forward ways that enable you to move forward with God's help.

Meeting Your Grief

Meeting your grief is the process of letting it in and acknowledging it. You need to get past the denial that you may go through in the early stages after something tragic has occurred. You can't cope properly with sorrow unless you are able to face it head-on, accepting it for what it is and how it is impacting your life.

Praying for God's help as you face your grief will give you the strength to accept the loss and understand that you have the strength with His love to survive that loss. There are many different kinds of loss that can be a source of grief. Regardless of what they are, you must be able to meet them and look them square in the face and be able to embrace it, if not willingly, at least realistically.

Sometimes we deny losses in our lives for many months or even years rather than meeting them and acknowledging them. Examples of loss like this include: loss of trust, loss of love, marriage or a spouse, loss of virginity, loss of security, loss of acceptance, loss of friendship, loss of innocence, loss of education, loss of security, loss of a child or loss of employment.

When you are ready to let go of the festering pain that these losses are causing you, pray to the Lord and He will help you Meet Your Grief. You will need to take that time to properly mourn. You may cry for a while, or spend some time alone or talk with someone who understands your pain. Whatever you need to do to allow the pain to be washed away is fine. At that point, you have taken the first step toward overcoming your grief.

Managing Your Grief

Managing your grief means understanding how to live your life and move forward with grief as a part of the whole. The Lord will give you the strength to integrate your sorrow into your daily living and learn how to slowly overcome the pain and depression that may have stopped you from moving forward before you met your grief. Management is about being able to slowly let the normalcy of life back into your days and giving yourself permission to move on. When your life begins to feel familiar to you once again, you are successfully managing your grief.

Mastering Your Grief

Mastering your grief is when you are able to move past it and overcome it. You do not have to forget the past or lose the memories of what has happened, but you do have to overcome the power that the grief has to hurt you. It is healthy to grieve a loss, but there comes a time for the mourning to end and new life to begin.

Mastering your grief can be difficult because you may feel guilty moving on, but God assures us that our lives are meant to have many different phases and nothing, including grief, is meant to last forever. He has created a world for us that is meant to be celebrated even when bad things happen.

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven…
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

When you have a grief to cope with, remember that the Lord is always listening and will be there to give you comfort and support. Pray for His help and you will find that the road toward meeting, managing and mastering your grief will be one you can travel with less sorrow than you would have expected.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

I know that in Your presence I will find everything that I ever need. Thank you for your love, which is so great that You desire to restore my life in every way.

Thank you that I don't have to live forever with sadness, hurt or depression. I know that You will come to my aid in my time of sorrow and comfort me. I have grieved the losses in my life, and I am so thankful that You have brought me to a place of peace and resurrection. As I move forward to pick up the pieces of my life a divine transformation is taking place, and a new me is emerging while letting go of the hurt and the pain.

I choose peace this day and worship You, the God of peace and love.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

The indwelling love of God is our source of inspiration for overcoming grief. Thank You, God , for Your presence of love, life, and light.

Learn Spanish Quick

Before we get into how to learn Spanish quick we are going to discuss the various benefits of being bilingual:

The biggest benefit of learning spanish or any other language is to increase you employment potential, which is a huge benefit in today's economy. Being bilingual may just tip the scales in your favor when applying for a position with multiple applicants.

Another benefit of learning another language is the ability to communicate with a wider range of people. About 300 million people worldwide speak Spanish as a first, and sometimes only, language.

Are you considering a trip to a Spanish speaking country? If so learning spanish can make the trip alot more rewarding and smoother. Removing that language barrier will make getting around the country and experiencing everything the country has to offer much easier. Also, most people appreciate it when visitors to their country have made the effort to learn the language.

So now that we have discussed the benefit of learning Spanish, let's move on to the options you have to learn Spanish quick. There are methods to learn Spanish, some more practical than others. For example, you could immerse yourself in the culture and surround yourself with Spanish speaker, which is quite effective. This is pretty difficult to accomplish however, unless you have Spanish speakers in your family or have friends who are Spanish speakers.

Another option would be to take a class. This is a good option, but time consuming. You will not be able to go at your own pace, and will have to set aside time to attend the lessons. A more practical and less time consuming option would be to pick up a Spanish learning program to help you learn Spanish quick. You see these all the time in infomercials and online and probably wonder how effective they are... well they are extremely effective in helping you learn Spanish like crazy. They allow you to go at your own pace, they are typically cost effective, and they provide a set program designed to get you speaking Spanish as soon as possible.

If you are interested in learning Spanish quick, then I highly recommend Rocket Spanish, it is cost effective and will get you learning Spanish fast.

Flashback: President Johnson's Proposal

In this week's Flashback! we've uncovered an interesting press release by our news service from 1965, in which the Lubavitcher Rebbe endorsed President Johnson's proposal that the federal aid education bill also include various provisions for the secular departments of parochial schools.
LUBAVITCHER REBBE ENDORSES PRESIDENT JOHNSON'S EDUCATION BILL
NEW YORK (LNS) - President Johnson's proposal that the pending Federal aid to education bill include various provisions for assistance to secular departments of Parochial schools, was welcomed here by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, as "a step in the right direction."
In a statement released through his secretariat, the world leader of the Lubavitcher movement announced his approval of the President's program. He assured his support of the measure "even though it does not yet satisfy all the justifiable demands of the secular departments of the Parochial schools for Federal aid."
"The most incisive comment that can be made in this regard," the statement says, "is that the real merits of the program will depend on its actual execution, namely, how, and by whom, the program will be administered, and how the funds will be distributed. The extent of the benefit to Jewish day schools will thus depend on the executors of the bill."
The Rebbe was one of the first Jewish proponents of Federal aid to Parochial schools, and has for long emphatically urged - in public addresses and statements - legislation in favor of such assistance.
"I must reiterate a view which I have voiced before," the statement reads. "It is the need to make sure at the outset that those groups and individuals who have placed themselves on public record in vehement opposition to Federal aid to Parochial schools should be excluded from administering the program. It will be no revelation to add that efforts are already in progress, on the part of antagonists to Federal aid to nonpublic schools, to either thwart its passage in Congress, or, failing that, to grasp the administrative end of the program, to make themselves the interpreters and distributors of the funds."
"I must also emphasize again one crucial aspect of the controversy, namely, that the prepondering majority of the Jewish antagonists of Federal aid to Parochial schools are those who are opposed to the very idea of Parochial schools. Many of them have the main say in the distribution of Jewish Federation funds, and resist support of Yeshivoth and day schools, either by giving them miserable token allocations, or by totally excluding them from any allocation."
"This painful subject," the Rebbe's statement concludes, "surely requires no elaboration."
